The Jewelry at Cannes
Even though I'm thrilled for the amazing films coming out of Cannes this year, I am even more excited for all the fabulous trends in jewelry I saw on the red carpet. Here are some pictures of my picks for best jewelry and what looks I think will set the trend in accessories for the coming year. As you can se, celebrities love the free spirit of the festival, and it showed...
Here is Eva Herzigova in Chopard jewels and a custom made Dolce & Gabbana champagne hued dress. Her jewels pay tribute to Marilyn Monroe, and are made of a total of 210 carats of sparkly diamonds. I love the beautiful necklace and earrings, which were designed by Chopard's artistic director Caroline Scheufele. This beautiful workmanship is very Chopard. Chic and classic, these jewels smartly complement her elegant neckline.
Continuing with the red carpet emerald trend, or better yet extending it, is the lovely Frieda Pinto in a colorful dress by Michael Angel. Her earrings and ring are also by Chopard. Tres jolie!
Another example of a classic jewels given a fresh twist are these beautiful earrings by Bucheron worn on the red carpet by the gorgeous Salma Hayek. These stunning pearl and diamond earrings are playful and young, while still maintaining their elegance. I give credit to her stylist for keeping the hair and makeup light, illuminating her natural beauty and keeping the earrings the focus of the look.
Now Salma wore two very different looks by Bucheron at the festival. Here she is looking more traditionally elegant as a counterpoint to her playful look above. These magnificent earrings are a great complement to her black tulle Gucci beaded gown.
Other favorites of mine this year were these beautiful jewels worn by the ravishing Chinese diva Fan BingBing. This antique Cartier diamond and sapphire necklace, sapphire drop diamond earrings, and bold sapphire ring were perfect for the occasion. Fan's fame is rising as one of the world's best dressed women, and it is easy to see why.
Last but not least is Lana del Rey chanelling old school glamour in this luscious and pillowy necklace by Chopard. The 18kt yellow gold necklace was finished off by a large yellow pear shaped diamond. Her earrings were matching diamond studs, which looked gorgeous peaking out from behind her soft waves. Another win for Chopard.
These are just some of the wonderful styles seen this year at Cannes. Although I did not find anything new or innovative, the common denominator on the red carpet was timeless elegance, and that is always a good thing. All the jewels were reminiscent of Old Hollywood, as were most of the glamorous gowns. If I can take something from this is that for the months to come we will see a return of old traditions and materials, re-imagined of course for today's modern woman.

Next is another interpretation of the emerald trend, this time done by Bulgari, and fabulously worn by Paz Vega. This is a great example of how a classic piece can be fashion forward if done with a modern flair.
The earrings are just the beggining. Here is the matching pearl and diamond cuff. This 20's inspired bracelet is to die for. It looks perfect with her beaded dress. Magnifique!
