The Minimalism Continues: Fashion at the The SAG Awards

Another week goes by, and yet another awards show comes to an end. This past week we had the Screen Actors Guild Awards, which are known for their style, simplicity and genuine warmth. The Screen Actors Guild Awards, which made its debut in 1995, has become one of the industry’s most prized honors. Even though, the  stars are are a bit more casual and themselves for  this one, it is still important in terms of trends, and of course as a precursor to the Oscars.

So, since we already started with trends, as far as jewelry is concerned it was a continuation of the same type of looks we saw last week at the Golden Globes. For example, we seem to still be missing necklaces, favoring bare shoulders and necks, as well as a minimalist approach to jewels.

Except of course for Sofia Vergara, who continues her streak of wearing important necklaces. Vergara admittedly said she is a big fan of jewelry, and it shows in this beautiful Amrapali vintage Victorian diamond-and-emerald necklace and matching teardrop earrings (valued at more than $200,000) . Check out this awesome emerald creation...

Yet another big trend I saw at the Globes, which is repeated here are small earrings or studs. Here are Malin Ackerman and Camila Alves showcasing this minimalist trend.

And speaking  of earrings, my favorite look of the night was hands-down Jennifer Garner in gorgeous earrings by David Webb and a fabulous midnight blue gown by Max Mara. Like many others gracing the carpet, Mrs. Affleck decided to forgo the necklace and went with the bare-neck look, but since her earrings are so fantastic and perfect with the dress I'll forgive her.

And speaking of blues, it was definitely blue in all of its shades that won the award for the color of the night. As a matter of fact most of the best dressed stars chose that color for the SAG Awards, and I don't blame them. Look how awesome Anna Gunn looks. She is one of my top faves, both for her dress and her amazing earrings.

Or how about Amy Adams? So chic! I though there for a moment that she was going to go all 70's retro on us again like she did in the red Valentino last week, but I am glad she did not. One more disco dress is a disco dress too many. So happy she chose these vintage sapphire, emerald and diamond Cartier drop earrings, and a belt instead of a necklace. With this asymmetric design, anything else would have competed. Bravo Amy! Perfection!

Another lady in blue, or rather turquoise, that I have to mention is Lupita Nyong'o. What a darling. Her custom designed Gucci dress was to die for. I also loved her matching bold makeup. I can't wait to see what she wears for the Oscars!

Other than blue, the other big trend in dresses was metallic (see Sofia Vergara above), with my favorite metallic look overall being Emilia Clark's divine one-shouldered Calvin Klein design.

For her jewels we have another bare neck, and ears with her piece de resistance being this fabulous and edgy chunky bracelet in rose gold and fancy diamonds. I love everything about her except I think she looks unfinished without earrings. Sorry Emilia!

Another earring less wonder was Sandra Bullock, who looked great in her Lanvin dress, but again, unfinished without any jewelry. My only consolation is that maybe this is just the stars saving their amazing pieces for Mr. Oscar.

And that folks was my coverage of the SAG awards. Bare necks, no earrings, and minimalism seem to be the ongoing trend. I know it's time to do a 90's revival but let's hope it ends soon. Let's see what happens this coming weekend at the Grammy's. You can always count on the for bling, bling, and more bling.

Love Always
