The Jewels of The Screen Actors Guild Awards

Another day, another awards show. Today we have a little review of the best dressed and accessorized stars at last night's SAG awards. Lauded by critics for its style, simplicity and genuine warmth, the Screen Actors Guild Awards, which made its debut in 1995, has become one of the industry’s most prized honors.  I love how real the stars come across on TV for this particular ceremony, so it's always one of my favorites.

For those of you not familiar with them, the awards focus on both individual performances as well as on the work of the entire ensemble of a drama series and comedy series, and the cast of a motion picture. These honors are fundamental to the spirit of the Screen Actors Guild Awards because they recognize what all actors know – that acting is a collaborative art. Now that we know what's up, let's move on to the fabulous red carpet fashion.

First up is one of my new favorite Actresses, Jennifer Lawrence from a movie I love, The Silver Linings Playbook. I'm actually going to review the film sometime this week so keep checking in. Anyway I loved her blue strapless navy Dior Haute Couture and many, many carats of Chopard diamonds.

Next up is Helen Hunt looking surprisingly edgy in a beaded mermaid gown by Romona Keveza, accessorized with a Neil Lane choker, Martin Katz bangles and a Swarovski clutch.  I'm in love with the choker, and I think after this flawless interpretation it will be making a comeback. everything about this is effortless, and I am inclined to call her the best dressed of the night.

Another one of my favorites was the lovely Amanda Seyfried, who I simply adored in the screen adaptation of Les Miserables. Amanda is on trend with this navy Zac Pozen gown and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. Love the unexpected length of the chain and the beautiful diamond pendant.  I think this look is very risky, what with the long chain and all, and she was able to pull it off grandly.

Other than navy dresses, the hot trend on this red carpet was metallic gowns. Just like Helen Hunt in her pewter ensemble Jennifer Garner looked is positively winning in glittery golden Oscar de la Renta burnt gold gown. Her fab jewelry was by David Webb, and I have to admit I want the bracelet for myself. Ben Affleck is a very lucky man!

Proving that you don't have to be boring to be elegant is the wonderful actress and gorgeously classic beauty Jessica Chastain. Here the Zero Dark Thirty star looks amazing in a super-fitted scarlet Alexander McQueen gown and a megawatt Water by Harry Winston necklace. Love Harry Winston and I really, really love this necklace.

What a great night for Modern Family's Sophia Vergara, who managed to look younger than she already does. I think is because she ditched her usually over the top beaded gowns and went for something fresh and simple. Sophia works all her curves in a barely there Donna Karan Atelier white lamé gown, and a million dollars worth of Neil Lane jewels.  Way to keep us interested Sophia!

An elegant Vivienne Westwood Couture column gown and simple yet chic Fred Leighton jewelry is Nicole Kidman's go to red carpet look. Even though it might not be a departure from her looks of fashions past, Nicole keeps it fresh with sexy makeup and trendy emeralds. Her green hued earrings are the perfect complement for her deep navy dress, and make a phenomenal focal point for her allover blue silhouette.

Taking a cue from her best friend Nicole Kidman, the fabulous nominee Naomi Watts was looking lovely in a gray lace Marchesa gown, Salvatore Ferragamo clutch and elegant Fabergé earrings. I love Faberge because it is a very traditional jewelry house, so I was happy to see it represent on the red carpet.  This brand is not usually seen at this types of events, so maybe it means Faberge is having a much deserved comeback.

Last but not least is Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev.  This type of gown, with its very casual sleeves was very popular, especially among the younger Hollywood stars. Her stunning dress was from Ellie Saab and the pretty jewels are from Neil Lane. I really love the fact that she did not go minimalistic, which is something that you would expect with such an architectural gown. Instead, she took that opportunity to go all out with age appropriate jewels and her fabulous Jimmy Choo clutch.

So those are my fave red carpet moments for the SAG Awards. Tell me, what do you think of the new navy blue trend? Did you watch the awards show last night?  Did you love the jewels? I did!

Love Always
Dani K
