Oscar Trends for 2012

The Oscars came and week this past weekend, but now that the dust has settled, it's time to focus on what the Oscars really are about: jewelry trends!  This year's red carpet was a very safe place for fashion, especially for jewelry, however I was able to notice three major trends:

Diamond necklaces, with or without matching earrings,

Minimal jewelry, and

Fabulous statement bracelets.

Unlike other years, there were no red carpet disasters.  Every one of the ladies was as chic as ever, and their gowns were all quite tasteful.  Further proof of the uneventfulness of it all, is that the biggest star of the whole ceremony was Angelina Jolie's leg!

Angelina herself was sporting the minimal makeup and jewelry look.  I guess with a vamped up style like hers, you don't really need much else. Here she is with simple diamond earrings and a sexy red pout.

But it wasn't all pseudo-boring bling.  There were some stand outs, yet just like at the Golden Globes, it was in the earring department.  The growing trend seems to be earrings that complement the dresses just so, minimal make-up and natural hair.  I like it, so here's a little run down of my top faves.

Loved Rose Byrne's 20's inspired look.  Her Chanel pearl and diamond danglers are to die for.  So Parisian, and so very chic.  This was one of my favorites.

Funny lady Tina Fey was also a hit, with these lovely chandelier style earrings by Bulgari. The sapphires and emeralds are always a classic, and the flattering shape elongates her neckline. Two thumbs up!

Another one of my favorite looks was the one by lovely actress Berenice Bejo. Emeralds are a popular choice for the Oscars, and this year was no exception. Her Chopard emerald and diamond drop earrings were perfect with her Ellie Saab dress.

Looking divine in short hair was Viola Davis in Lorraine Schwartz, with yet another lovely pair of emerald and diamond earrings.  The color was great on her skin and fabulous to photograph.  Loved the intricate work on these.

The hottest earrings definitely have to be Busy Phillips' vermilion, cirulean opal and diamond earrings by Irene Neuwirth. Here she is looking young and fresh on the red carpet, two very hard things to pull off at a formal event like this. These are amazing example of jewelers moving towards more organic shapes and working with new types of gems.

I love working with these type of opaque and unique stones and combining them with diamonds myself.  You can get a similar look by wearing these sexy earrings in turquoise, red coral and diamonds from my Wanderlust collection :

Octavia Spencer was not only a winner in her best supporting actress category, but also on the red carpet. These white gold and diamond drop earrings by Maria Canale are exquisite. She was so classic, so divine. Perfect choice for her skin tone and beaded gown.

If you like this look you can try to go for something like these drop dead gorgeous pear and diamond earrings, also by Daniella Kronfle Jewelry:

Despite her too long fringe, comedic star Ellie Kemper was looking super in these ethnic inspired earrings by Lorraine Schwartz. She rocked the red carpet.

Also rocking the red carpet was Stacy Kiebler in chic 80's pendant earrings from Lorraine Schwartz.  Love her glam hairdo.  The dress not so much, it was a little cheesy.

Of course it wasn't all just a sea of earrings.  Some of the ladies added their own original touch in the accessories department.  Here for example is Kate Mara wearing the most beautiful diamond hairpiece.

And I loved Gwyneth Paltrows intricate white gold and diamond cuff bracelet.  I think this might actually be the reigning piece...

To get Gwyneth's look you can try any of these two cuffs from my collection on for size...

So there you have it ladies and gentlemen.  Minimal makeup, not so much jewelry and key statement pieces.  That is the look of this years' Academy Awards.  Maybe next year we will see some more innovative and daring looks, and yes, I'm looking at you Angelina!

Love Always
Dani K
